- This weekend marks Jack Le Brocq’s second career visit to New Zealand’s Pukekohe Park Raceway aboard the Truck Assist TEKNO Racing Commodore.
- In a change for 2019, the round is the final single-driver event leading into the Pirtek Enduro Cup, which commences with the Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000 from October 10-13.
- Le Brocq will be looking to improve on his 22nd and 23rd place results from the venue last year.
- Team TEKNO have form on the board in New Zealand, with four podium visits, including a win for Shane Van Gisbergen in 2014.
Pukekohe is the lead-in to Bathurst this year, which is going to be very different.
“It’s definitely a strange feeling, that’s for sure!” Said Le Brocq.
“Being earlier in the year, it is likely to be a bit cooler, and there is always the chance the weather could really spice things up.
“Also, I think everyone will hit Pukekohe this year a bit fresher, because the enduro campaign tends to take a lot out of you.
“But no matter what, I’m really looking forward to getting back there, 2018 was my first ever visit, so this time knowing what to expect will hopefully be an advantage.
“Last year we battled a bit for pace, but having that previous experience on board, I think we are starting from a better baseline.
“It’s a real driver’s circuit, I rate it, it’s one of my favourite stops on the calendar!”
What about the bumps?
“Turn one is awesome, it’s probably one of the more eye-opening corners we visit during the season, that’s for sure!
“It took me a couple of practice sessions to be totally comfortable with it, the bumps really feel like they are going to throw the car off the circuit.
“It all comes down to trusting the car that it can keep hooked up and not spit you out the other side.
“That whole run out of the far hairpin, up onto the straight and into turn one is pretty wild, and there isn’t a whole lot of room for error, especially if you are in a train of cars.”
What is the biggest challenge in registering a quick lap time?
“It’s quite a technical lap, so there is a lot involved in linking a lap together.
“Getting through the turns two-three-four kerbing is a challenge, then you need to get the car stopped and turned at the end of the straights.
“So, between the tight bits and the fast sections, there’s always going to be a bit of a compromise in setup.”
