TEKNO’s #1 McLaren 650S has finished 5th overall and 3rd in the PRO Class at the Liqui Moly Bathurst 12 Hour, while the #59 entry was unable to take part in the race at Mount Panorama Circuit.
Davison didn’t get a chance to replicate his recent successes at Bathurst alongside Ben Barnicoat and Jonny Kane after the rear subframe was unable to be replaced.
Davison set a lap time of 2:03.386 to finish P2 in the Qualifying session, but the #59 Car was unable to be repaired for the race following a clash with the wall during Barnicoat’s qualifying stint.
“OUR TEKNO MCLAREN WAS REALLY QUICK IN QUALIFYING AND I THINK WE HAD THE PACE TO BE ON POLE POSITION. I WAS LOOKING FORWARD TO BEING VERY COMPETITIVE IN THE RACE TOO, BUT UNFORTUNATELY AFTER BEN’S ACCIDENT THE CAR COULDN’T BE REPAIRED IN TIME TO START THE RACE. DISAPPOINTING BUT THAT’S RACING.”
The #1 McLaren 650S Entry had trials of it’s own, but drivers Alvaro Parente, Come Ledogar and Rob Bell were able to fly through the field after starting last to finish P5 Overall.
McLaren GT Factory Driver Come Ledogar had a rough initiation to the Bathurst track, with the car requiring a new engine before the Race and starting from pit lane as a result, as opposed to P16 where they qualified.
“THE RACE WEEKEND WAS SHORT OF LUCK, AS WE HAD TO CHANGE THE ENGINE AND BECAUSE OF THAT START FROM PIT LANE. IN THE FIRST PART OF THE RACE WE LOST 4 LAPS AS WE HAD TO STOP IN THE PIT TWICE, BUT TEKNO MANAGED TO SOLVE ALL PROBLEMS AND SHOW STRONG STRATEGY TO COME BACK FROM NOWHERE TO 5TH POSITION WITH GREAT PACE. THE CAR WAS PERFECTLY BALANCED AND THE TRACK WAS FANTASTIC TO RACE ON! BIG THANKS TO TEKNO.”
Rob Bell narrowly missed out on catching the front of the field after a software glitch slowed him on the track and left him 4 laps down.
“THAT WAS TOUGH! UNFORTUNATELY WE WERE UNABLE TO DEFEND OUR TITLE BUT IT WASN’T BY LACK OF EFFORT. WE HAD ALREADY CAUGHT THE FIELD OF GT3 CARS DURING THE FIRST SAFETY CAR HOWEVER, WE HAD AN UNRELATED SOFTWARE GLITCH WHICH CAUSED US TO LOSE POWER AND I HAD TO LIMP BACK TO THE PITS AT 30KM/HR. BY THE TIME WE GOT BACK ON TRACK WE WERE 4 LAPS DOWN TO THE LEADER. THE CAR WAS EXCELLENT AND WITH GREAT STRATEGY AND PIT STOPS WE WERE ON A CHARGE, AT ONE POINT WE LOOKED LIKE WE WOULD GET BACK TO THE LEAD LAP BUT TIME RAN OUT. WE HAD A GREAT RUN, OUR FIGHT BACK WAS EXCITING AND IT’S ONE OF THE MOST ENJOYABLE RACES I’VE HAD IN YEARS! MANY THANKS TO THE WHOLE TEAM FOR NEVER GIVING UP AND PUTTING ON A GREAT SHOW.”
The #1 TEKNO McLaren 650S finished P5 Overall and P3 in the PRO class.
TEKNO will now focus on their entry in the Virgin Australia Supercars Championship season opener, with the Clipsal 500 to be held in Adelaide on March 2-5.
