Team TEKNO was out at Reid Park in Townsville last weekend for the Australian GT Championship! Running alongside the V8 Supercars as part of the Townsville 400, the McLaren GTs took centre stage for two 60-minute races across Saturday and Sunday.

Race 1:

Race 1 of the fifth round of the Australian GT Championship saw the #59 McLaren Melbourne 650S GT3 piloted by Jonathon Webb and Grant Denyer start P3 on the grid. The #61 Beechwood/SLR/Buildcorp McLaren 650S GT3 of Nathan Antunes and Elliot Barbour wasn’t placed too far behind, starting P4 on the grid. Nathan Morcom’s #60 DPO McLaren 650S GT3 sat a little further behind on the grid with a P12 start.

Despite starting in P3, the #59 experienced a difficult race after losing 16 places in the pits. Ultimately, a P8 finish was achieved after a valiant charge through the pack. The #61 experienced similar luck, achieving a P4 start but ending with a P10 finish. Nathan Morcom in the #60 achieved a fantastic result despite a P12 start, finishing in P4 – just one position shy of a podium finish.

Race 2:

With race 1 done and dusted, the second race ended with disappointing results. Despite a promising P4 finish for the #60 DPO 650S GT3 in race 1, a P11 finish was managed for race 2 as a result of a brake issue that arose just after the second lap. The #61 Beechwood/SLR/Buildcorp 650S GT3 experienced some bad luck after an amazing effort, beginning race 2 in P10 and flying through the ranks to P2 before also encountering a brake issue that saw the #61 losing precious laps in the pits to try and rectify the problem which ultimately resulted in a P19 finish. The Web/Denyer #59 McLaren Melbourne 650S GT3 ended race 2 of the Townsville 400 Australian GT Championship round with a P10 finish from a P8 start.
